Thank You, Colorado Health Foundation

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about The YAY! Foundation and our innovative programming for building bridges in Montezuma County. We are excited to share the impact we’ve already made—and the work you can help us expand.

This page was created specifically for your team to offer a clear, honest, and vibrant look into who we are, what we do, and why our work is so urgently needed.

Past Building Bridges Successes!

Using comedy and storytelling to bring communities together and break stigma is at the heart of The YAY! Foundation’s proven approach. Our impact is reflected not only in the success of our programs, but also in the voices of partners and participants who have experienced the difference firsthand. Below, you’ll find letters of recommendation that demonstrate how our work continues to foster connection, reduce stigma, and inspire lasting change.

  • Aidan recently served as an inspirational speaker and facilitator for a meeting on gun violence prevention on the Ute Mountain Ute reservation, (of Montezuma County) co-hosted by Colorado Ceasefire. His contribution to this critical conversation was nothing short of remarkable. From the outset, Aidan brought an infectious passion for creating safer communities, which immediately captured the attention of the audience. His ability to connect with participants, both on an intellectual and emotional level, created an environment where people felt seen, heard, and valued. Even in moments where difficult truths emerged, Aidan navigated the discussion with a rare combination of empathy, professionalism, and respect.

  • “The YAY Foundation takes a unique and impactful approach to mental health advocacy by using comedy and storytelling to reduce stigma and increase accessibility. In a field often burdened by formality and disconnection, their work provides a refreshing and much-needed bridge between providers and community members…. As a gay, BIPOC leader, Aidan brings a vital perspective to the mental health space. His presence and programming offer not only innovation but also cultural responsiveness, which is especially needed in communities like ours. The rapid, enthusiastic response to his work is a testament to its effectiveness.”

“The program is not just a “one and done” experience; instead, it creates a sustainable model by empowering local community members to continue the work. The “cast” and team who worked with Aidan have become a support system within themselves. The power of this program was evident when a local sheriff, who initially declined to participate as a cast member, came to the Executive Director a^er the show and expressed his regret after witnessing the profound impact of the show.

We are now in our third consecutive year partnering with YAY to produce World AIDS Day events in rural communities like Grand Junction and Durango, CO. In 2023, the event sold out and became a highlight of the season. The atmosphere was joyful, emotional, and connective—watching HIV-positive individuals share their stories through laughter brought the room together in a way few advocacy tools can. One story stands out: a newly diagnosed client attended the event feeling afraid and isolated. After seeing a room full of happy, healthy people living with HIV, she left with a renewed sense of hope and connection. That kind of transformation is what meaningful advocacy looks like.

Participant Testimonials

“I’m the Reentry and Harm Reduction Navigator for Yarrow. Sharing my prison reentry story through comedy pushed me out of my comfort zone — but it brought people together and helped normalize tough experiences. I’m so grateful for YAY.”
— Kyle Rogers, Yarrow Collective

“I just finished the best week with Aidan. It was amazing to see him help people work through their life experiences and bring the comedy of those moments to the stage — even people who didn’t think they were funny or wanted to perform. Our small town didn’t really know what this would be, but it turned into a truly powerful event. It built confidence, created belonging, and reminded us all that we’re not alone.”
— Hillary, Director, Recovery Café, Colville, Washington

“The YAY Foundation did a fantastic job. I’m on the NAMI steering committee and we helped bring this to our town. The turnout was way beyond what we expected. More importantly, I think it opened up a conversation around mental health in a new way. It was funny, real, and left a lasting impression. If we host this again, they’re absolutely invited back. It was transformative for our community.”
— Chris, NAMI Steering Committee, Colville, Washington

“I was coming out of a really dark time and almost didn’t show up for the workshop. But I’m so grateful I did. It was exactly what I needed. This kind of experience changes people — one at a time — and gives us something to take back out into the world. Something joyful. Something healing.”
— Ryan Williams, Commander, American Legion, Durango, CO

“When I met Aidan Park in 2020, I was in a dark place. I was struggling with depression, anxiety, and the suicide of a close friend. I felt directionless. After a few open mics, I joined Aidan’s workshop — and it changed everything. He showed me how to use humor to process my story. I got a standing ovation the first time I went on stage. That moment was life-changing.”
— Nick Kynett, Participant, Kalispell, MT

“This whole experience changed my entire life. It didn’t just give me confidence in things I used to only dream about — it actually helped me achieve them. It lit something inside me. I’m addicted now to this kind of growth and self-expression.”
— Tray, Participant

"The YAY! Foundation was incredibly impactful with a very difficult crowd. Disability carries so much stigma, yet Aidan was able to connect deeply with our participants in a meaningful way that made each person feel important, seen, and hopeful about their future. His work encouraged a record number of enrollments in our program and left a lasting impression of possibility and empowerment. The experience was so successful that we are bringing him on to work with all of our young adults in the internship program. Professional, full of integrity, and truly impactful—YAY! Foundation is a partner we are proud to continue working with."

— Albertine S. Wing, Ute Mountain Ute Tribe Program Assistant, Tribal Vocational Rehabilitation Program
